Computer parts

Motherboard and CPU (6/25/2011)

Zotac mini ITX motherboard and core-i7 CPU.

RAM (6/25/2011)

8GB GSKILL ram

Graphics card (6/25/2011)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 (Fermi), 96 cores. Not the best graphics card avalible, but the best card by nvidia that would fit into the case at the time of construction.

Power supply (6/25/2011)

Topower TOP-FLEX-300W power supply. Will fit into the antec ISK 300-150 case. OEM power supply (150W, right) is not capable of powering the system under full processor load. The replacement (TOP-FLEX-300W) has more than adiguit power to run the system fully loaded. In addition it has a thermal fan control with a quiet fan and high capacity 12V power busses.

CPU cooler (6/25/2011)

OEM intel cooler (left) did not sufficiently cool the CPU. A MitxPC LPHS1156 cpu fan was chosen due to its all copper design and 37.4CFM fan, however, the fin density on this cooler is too high yielding low airflow and poor performance in practice. It yields only about 2 degrees cooler CPU temperature then the stock intel cooler.

CPU cooler bracket (6/25/2011)

Zotac felt the nead to populate the keap clear area under the CPU with filter capacitors. The bracket has to be cut to fit on the motherboard.

CPU cooler and Antec case (6/25/2011)

A Dynatron K129 CPU heatsink designed for a 1U server was chosen for it's better fin design that yields much higher airflow. The fan and aluminum fan bracket from the MitxPC LPHS1156 was mounted on this heatsink since they are nearly identical in size.

Computer is built in an Antec ISK 300-150 case.

CPU cooler (6/25/2011)

The cooler was later upgraded to a 50CFM fan.

NOTE: later pictures on this page will show the older fan on the cooler, but this is the fan that is currenlty used.

Power supply (6/25/2011)

Topower TOP-FLEX-300W power supply mounts in case in place of OEM supply. The OEM brackets are used, held in a friction fit on the tabs in the case. The power supply is not screwed into the brackets due to the diffrence in bolt holes. The power supply is held in place verticaly by the compression of the AYX power cable between the supply and CD tray.

Power supply cable (6/25/2011)

Custom short cable was build to connect rear connector to power supply.

Power supply cable (6/25/2011)

Plugs into supply.

Power supply cable (6/25/2011)

Routed to rear of case.

Hard drives (6/25/2011)

128GB Crucial SSD for primary drive and 500GB Western Digital secondary.

DVD drive (6/25/2011)

Low profile samsung DVD-RW drive.

Drive tray (6/25/2011)

Mounted in case.

VGA extension cable (6/25/2011)

Allows extension of VGA connector to back of case (both my LCDs are VGA only).

VGA extension cable (6/25/2011)

Routing fron card to back of case.

VGA extension cable (6/25/2011)

Mounted to back of case in place of OEM fan controles.
